Introduction to Mural Painting

About the event:

Join us for a creative and hands-on weekend exploring the art of mural painting within the inspiring setting of Braziers Park. This workshop is ideal for anyone who enjoys painting or digital illustration and would like to learn how to take their work from the page to the wall. Led by Nor Greenhalgh, a resident artist at Braziers Park, the course offers both practical guidance and insight into the rhythms of life within our unique community.

The weekend begins on Friday evening with a short introduction to Braziers Park and its communal way of living – a chance to meet fellow participants, learn about the estate’s history, and settle into the atmosphere of shared creativity. The mural painting course itself will run from Saturday morning through to Sunday afternoon, combining technical sessions, demonstrations, and collaborative practice.

Over the course of the weekend, we will cover:

–    What paints are suitable for outdoor vs. indoor use and where to source them         (with a focus on water-based acrylic paints, plus an introduction to more                 experimental media for indoor or temporary works)

–    What substrates are available and how to choose between them

–    How to mount mural panels onto a wall

–    How to prepare and paint on wood, plaster, stone, or brick

–    How to generate ideas and design for a large scale

–    How to transfer your design onto the wall

Between talks and demonstrations, participants will have plenty of opportunity for hands-on practice as we create a collaborative mural on a freestanding frame to be displayed at Braziers.

The weekend offers not only a comprehensive introduction to mural painting but also a glimpse into the communal life of Braziers Park – with shared meals, conversation, and time to explore the house and grounds forming part of the experience.
