BookkeeperHow would you describe Braziers Park to someone who has never heard of us before?
I have to do this quite a bit when people ask me where I work. I struggle to find the right words as ‘intentional community’ doesn’t mean much to most people. I once described it to a friend as “a big old house where people can come and live together as a community” and she responded with “what… you mean like for lonely people?” She sort of missed the point but also didn’t. Braziers is a melting pot of so many different people. For me, it keeps me from being stuck in a bubble or echo chamber of always seeing the same types of people. There’s always someone new to talk to with a different perspective.
Tell us about your role at Braziers?
I’m the Bookkeeper at Braziers. I work with our treasurer and another Trustee of the charity. I handle any financial transactions that come up in the day-to-day running of Braziers. Daily, I do things such as paying bills when they come in, paying expense claims and invoicing customers. I also get Braziers through our annual audit each year. Recently, I have been getting to grips with VAT returns as Braziers is newly registered.
How do you envision Braziers in the future?
It’s been a pleasure to see building and repair work start to happen. I would love to see the main house and outbuildings fully restored by the community. I want the house and grounds to stay in the hands of the community for as long as possible and for the community to continue to grow. Other things will come from that, guided by the people in the house but this will be organic and changing and not something I would want to try to predict.
