Reed Pen & Ink Workshop
About the event:
We will be working from either photos or from life (weather dependent) in the grounds of Braziers Park. Using a bamboo pen and possibly making our own from twigs too, we will use ink on paper, using patterns and varying marks to build our composition. It is possible we could do a series of small pieces or one bigger piece if you prefer.
Not only does this provide you with a fresh material to explore but it helps to look for movement, form, pattern and create a lively mixture of marks, possibly adding wet on wet or bleached areas. There will be no initial drawing beneath so we will go straight into pen to maximise our excitement of the subject and single colour only so we do not become distracted by colour and to some extent tone.
For anyone wishing to help become looser or more spontaneous about their drawing this will really help. It is slightly out of our control working in this way as the usual continuous marks made are interrupted as the ink runs out. Every mark has to stay.
About the facilitator:
Wendy Botto paints in a variety of styles and mediums using a selected colour pallet. She describes herself as akin to The Fauve and post-impressionist movements.
